Manufacturing companies aiming to transform their business models to offer Product Service Systems need to change several organizaional elements such as corporate culture, people management, organizational structures, performance systems, reward systems, and business processes.
Regarding the business process element, new end-to-end processes oriented to service provision need to be established. In addition, existing back office processes need to be redesigned to ensure profitability for the PSS offer. Those changes should be performed with a systemic approach in order to ensure a proper connection between strategic and operational levels. Hence, a process architecture for the PSS transition should be clearly defined during the development phase. However, how to establish this PSS process architecture is still an open issue that deserves further investigation.
Therefore, this research aims to develop a method to design a Business Process Architecture for PSS. This method envisions aspects such as processes hierarchical and end-to-end vision, resources requirement, and measurement and performance mechanisms. Furtheremore, it considers that the process architecture can be derived from some elements of the business model. The integration between business model and process architecture is a differential of this approach. It benefits the companies by ensuring alignment between the organization’s strategy, represented in the business model, and its processes as resultied from the process architecture.
This project corresponds to an ongoing Research being conducted by Marina Pieroni.
